Information for Presenters

Submission of an abstract signifies intent to display a scientific poster during Research!Louisville. The deadline for submitting an abstract is Monday, September 19, 2011.

To be eligible, the principal author must be a professional or graduate student, UofL high school scholar, postgraduate, staff, or faculty member at UofL or an attending physician of the hospitals in the Louisville Medical Center.

Individuals may submit only one abstract as the presenting (first) author. Medical student participants in the Summer Research Scholar Program are required to present at Research!Louisville.

All poster sessions will take place in the 1st floor lobby of the Clinical and Translational Research Building, 505 South Hancock Street.  The dates for the display and presentation of posters are indicated below.  All winners in the award categories will be asked to display their posters at the “winners gallery” during the remainder of the week and during the reception and preceeding the awards ceremony and keynote address in the Clinical and Translational Research Building on Friday, October 14.

Basic Science and Engineering Graduate Student and High School Scholars Showcase
Tuesday, October 11, 9:00 a.m. - noon

Professional & Clinical Student Research Showcase
(Medical and Dental Students, Nursing and Public Health Graduate Students)
Tuesday, October 11, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Postgraduate Research Showcase
(Residents, Clinical Fellows, Postdoctoral Fellows, Research Associates, Research Staff)
Wednesday, October 12, 9:00 a.m. - noon

Faculty Research Showcase
Thursday, October 13, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Poster judging - 9:00 a.m. - noon (Faculty need not be present)
Reception, Poster viewing and Presentations - noon - 1:00 p.m.  (Faculty are asked to be present during this time)

 

For students, postdocs and staff, the poster and presentation will be judged on a 1-5 scale according to the following criteria:

Because  resident, fellows and faculty are normally not able to be present, their posters will be judged on a 1-5 scale according to the following criteria:

  • Definition of problem or hypothesis
  • Appearance, graphic aids, language
  • Results, interpretation, scientific quality
  • Comprehension and insight
  • Overall quality

 

  • Definition of problem or hypothesis

  • Significance of the research
  • Overall quality

 


Faculty posters will be eligible for awards in the following five categories:

  • Scientific Importance
  • Innovation in Biotechnology
  • Innovation in Behavioral Sciences
  • Most Promising Basic Science Research
  • Potential for Major Clinical Application
