Information for Presenters

Submission of an abstract signifies intent to display a scientific poster during Research!Louisville. The deadline for submitting an abstract is Monday, September 29, 2008.

To be eligible, the principal author must be a professional or graduate student, postgraduate, staff, or faculty member at UofL or an attending physician of the hospitals in the Louisville Medical Center.

Individuals may submit only one abstract as the presenting (first) author. Medical student participants in the Summer Research Scholar Program are required to present at Research!Louisville.

There is a 3,600 character limit for the abstract.

The dates for the display and presentation of posters are indicated below. All winners in the award categories will be asked to display their posters at the “winners gallery” in the Baxter I Research Building during the remainder of the week as well as in the Glass Conference Room of the Ambulatory Care Building of University Hospital during the reception and preceeding the awards ceremony and keynote address in the ACB Auditorium on Friday, October 24.

Medical Students
9:00 a.m. – noon, Tuesday, October 21

Dental Students
9:00 a.m. – noon, Tuesday, October 21


Nursing/Public Health Graduate Students
9:00 a.m. – noon, Tuesday, October 21


Basic Science/Engineering Graduate Students
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 21

Postdoctoral Fellows
9:00 a.m. – noon, Wednesday, October 22

Residents and Clinical Research Fellows
9:00 a.m. – noon, Wednesday, October 22

Research Staff
9:00 a.m. – noon, Wednesday, October 22

Faculty
Display: 9:00 a.m. - noon, Thursday, October 23
Reception:  noon – 1:00 p.m.

 

For students, staff and postgraduates, the poster and presentation will be judged on a 1-5 scale according to the following criteria:

For faculty, the posters will be judged on a 1-5 scale according to the following criteria:

  • Definition of problem or hypothesis
  • Appearance, graphic aids, language
  • Results, interpretation, scientific quality
  • Comprehension and insight
  • Overall quality

(25 point maximum)

  • Definition of problem or hypothesis
  • Appearance, graphic aids, language
  • Results, interpretation, scientific quality
  • Significance of the research
  • Overall quality

(25 point maximum)


Faculty posters will be eligible for awards in the following five categories:

  • Scientific Importance
  • Innovation in Biotechnology
  • Innovation in Behavioral Sciences
  • Most Promising Basic Science Research
  • Potential for Major Clinical Application
